David Campbell

David Campbell was one of several David Campbells whose activities are ascribed to each other. Similarly Samuel Newell activities are erroneously attributed among six Newell contemporaries. This Liberty Hall David Campbell was not the Virginia governor from Montcalm at Abingdon. He was the judge of the Territory South of the Ohio. He built Campbell’s Station (west of current Knoxville) soon after Newell built Newells Station. Campbell and Newell invited classmate Samuel Carrick to the area where Carrick began 1st Presbyterian Church and Blount College, the precursor of the University of Tennessee. Later he was chief justice of the Tennessee supreme court.
